A Fairly Good Time

Greg and I had a blast at the Oregon State Fair this year. We’ve been to the Utah State fair but we both agreed that this one was head and shoulders above Utah’s.

We started with the animals, which was fun until Greg started sneezing uncontrollably and we found out he’s not just allergic to cats. We were amazed that they had these gigantic cows for you to look at with no gate, only a rope tied to the fence to keep them there. We saw the following animals: goats, pigs, cows, llamas, horses, sheep, and rabbits. We got there just in time for the goat udder judging. Couldn’t think of a weirder contest.

From there it was off to the horse show. We got great seats and Jackson even sat through it. But the real highlight of our day was going to see the tradeshows and all the sales presentation. We are real suckers for that, and if it weren’t for the fact that we had no money we would have ended up with a Vitamix blender like Ron. Greg did manage to come away with some lower back supports for your chair, and won some free ice cream. Greg’s highlight was the half hour he spent “testing” the massage chairs.

Finally we went to the family area and Jackson had a hay day (get it? hay?) He got to climb all over this play structure, and bounce in the bounce house. We got some cool action shots. I took him over to the petting zoo (Greg stayed outside on account of his allergies) and went crazy. He was squealing as he got to pet the goats and sheep. They even ate food out of his hand which he thought was HILARIOUS.

After an exhausting hot day we went home happy (although really annoyed that Jackson lost one of his shoes…if anyone sees a blue old navy Velcro shoe at the state fairgrounds, send it my way). Hope you all had just as much fun!
